Standard Chartered hires Singapore tech exec from $76bn finance firm… as an MD
As banks' technical complexity grows, chief information security officers (CISO) are becoming more important. Standard Chartered in Singapore has just hired one from an insurance firm, but not as a straight CISO.

Steve Myers has joined the British bank as an MD and group head of cyber, data and enterprise technology in its audit team. He's spent the last eight years as AIA's CISO.
Myers was seemingly not included in AIA's 'executive committee' while he worked there. At Standard Chartered, meanwhile, group CISO Alvaro Garrido is the third name on its own 'management team' page. AIA's only technologist on its committee, CTO Biswa Misra, is also its 'chief life operations officer.'
Swapping an executive role at a $76bn company for an MD role at a $25bn one seems peculiar on paper, but he may just be homesick. Myers spent thirteen years in banking prior to joining AIA. He was an executive director at Goldman Sachs for the bulk of that, in charge of global cybersecurity and technology audits. He also worked at UBS in technology risk, and was latterly Asia head of technology risk and control for JPMorgan's investment bank.
Myers isn't the only senior technologist formerly of AIA to depart for banking this year. The firm's ex-global head of cybersecurity, Alex Quinteri, who left in 2018 for another insurance firm, joined Citi as an MD in APAC cybersecurity in January.
