Hedge fund Millennium hired an ex-Goldman Sachs strat MD from Citadel

Hedge fund Citadel likes to hire people from Goldman Sachs. So does hedge fund Millennium. It's natural, then, that someone who left Goldman Sachs for the former hedge fund may be sought after by the latter. One Goldman quant who did just that has emerged at Millennium in New York.

Samuel Krasnik worked for Citadel as a quant research lead for three years at Goldman Sachs. He has been out of the market for two years on garden leave, but this month joined rival fund Millennium as a quant researcher. Krasnik spent 12 years at Goldman Sachs, joining in 2009 and making MD in 2017.

At Goldman, Krasnik was a quant strat, its famous, highly commercial take on quantitative developers. Specifically, Krasnik led the FAST (franchise analytics strategy and technology) team within global markets. Under Krasnik, the team developed data and analytics tools for its front-office traders to use, often involving AI techniques like natural language processing.

Krasnik isn't the only recent arrival from Goldman Sachs. The FT reported late last week that the fund had hired partner and co-head of equities Erdit Hoxha.

Citadel and Millennium seem to like Goldman Sachs alumni for slightly different reasons. Citadel founder Ken Griffin previously praised Goldman's staff for their communication skills and said he tried to emulate that aspect of its culture at Citadel. Millennium insiders previously told the FT that Millennium founder Izzy Englander "likes the concept of committees... [Goldman people] tend to respect hierarchies, and they are used to co-heads and committees.”

Millennium declined to comment.
