Another senior technologist quietly left hedge fund Brevan Howard

Brevan Howard, the hedge fund founded in 2002 by Alan Howard, has parted company with another technologist.

We reported on Brevan Howard's technology changes in early September. At that time, seven of the firm's more senior technology staff had left in the previous 18 months. Those departures can now be revised to eight.

Brevan Howard didn't respond to multiple requests to comment on this article, but Alan Russell, its head of front office engineering, says on LinkedIn that he left in September 2025, too.

Russell also didn't respond to a request to comment on this article. The reason for his exit is unclear.

Russell joined Brevan Howard in September 2023. During his tenure, he says that he worked on Brevan's "front office IT digital transformation." This included the "Lodestar project" in which Russell says Brevan moved "large numbers of systems for Trading and Risk back “in-house” from Coremont (Brevan Howard IT Managed Service Provider Spin Off)."

The shuffling of senior staff in Brevan Howard's IT function follows the arrival of Mike Sanders from JPMorgan as the fund's new CTO in September 2024. Last month, Sanders hired Tim Mace from Man Group as head of AI.

Brevan Howard's website says it now has 145 portfolio managers and 1,050 employees. In 2019, it had 150 employees and 30 portfolio managers, according to Bloomberg. Many of the additional non-PM staff added in the past five years are thought to be in tech.
