Europe’s top ten equity analysts – everything you need to know
Equity research isn’t quite as sexy to people outside of finance as, say, investment banking or trading. But top equity analysts are still stars – and they’ve had a bit of a red-carpet moment recently.

Extel, the London-based market intelligence provider, recently released its ranking of (Western) Europe’s top ten equity analysts. Representing five different firms, one bank in particular was well-represented: JPMorgan, which had three analysts in the top ten, including two in the top three. Most analysts – seven out of ten – were based in London, and all, as far as we could tell, were managing directors (MDs).
JPMorgan did not, however, employ the highest-rated European equity analyst. That distinction goes to Barclays’ London-based head of European consumer staples research, Warren Ackerman, who was runner-up last year in Extel’s rankings. Ackerman is a relatively new addition to Barclays’ stable, having joined the firm in 2019 from SocGen, where he was also head of consumer staples.
In second place was last year’s number one, Céline Pannuti of JPMorgan. Pannuti is JPMorgan’s head of European staples research. A 22-year veteran of the firm, she joined the firm from Citigroup back in 2004. Pannuti is based in Geneva.
Mislav Matejka came third. Matejka is head of JPMorgan’s global and European equity strategy. He joined the firm in 2000 – yes, 26 years ago – and has previously covered the semiconductor and airline industries, according to TipRanks.
Barclays’ head of equity strategy, Emmanuel Cau, came in fourth. Cau joined Barclays in 2018 after a 13-year career at JPMorgan, where he spent 14 years.
Jeff Stent, head of consumer staples at BNP Paribas came fifth. Stent has spent 17 years across both BNP Paribas and its Exane subsidiary, joining the firm in 2009 from Citigroup. Stent was the best-ranked analyst in Europe in Extel’s 2018 rankings.
Guillaume Delmas of UBS came sixth. Another consumer staples specialist, Delmas is a relatively fresh face at UBS, having joined the firm as an executive director in 2020 and being made an MD just last year. He had stints at Bank of America, Nomura, and Lehman brothers in London before joining UBS.
Another JPMorgan analyst, Paris-based Elodie Rall, came seventh. Rall is JPMorgan’s head of European building materials, construction, and infrastructure research. She has spent 18 years at the firm across London and Paris and joined the firm from ABM AMRO.
Ashley Wallace, head of consumer discretionary research at Bank of America, was eighth. A 14-year veteran of the firm, she joined the bank from RBS, where she spent six years in Sydney, mostly researching media and gaming.
Another UBS analyst, Zuzanna Pusz, was ninth. The Milan-based head of European luxury goods (appropriate!) research has only been at UBS for seven years, and joined the firm from Berenberg. She has a score of 4.11 on TipRanks, which is actually pretty impressive, with a 56% success rate putting her in the top 18% of analysts globally.
Rounding out the pack was Dennis Jose of BNP Paribas, the firm’s global head of equity strategy. Jose joined BNP eight years ago, after an eight-year stint at Barclays, where he was head of European equity strategy.
