Shay Deverell joined Hudson River Trading in New York last week as head of its algorithmic trading compliance team in the Americas. She joined the firm from Citadel Securities, where she spent 10 years (including a one-year non-compete) across both Chicago and New York.
Deverell is a storied and successful lawyer. She won the “Rising Star” award at the Women in Financial Markets awards 2022, when CitSec was also awarded the “corporate champion award” to celebrate its contribution to “attracting, retaining, educating, and developing female leaders in the finance industry.”
Deverell is also an accomplished runner. At a marathon in 2023, she ran a half-marathon in 1h33m, a frankly excellent pace that placed her 161st out of 4,831 total runners and 21st out 2,486. Deverell maintained a 7:09 mile throughout the run.
Extracurricular activities aside, compliance activities have never been so important for electronic trading firms. Jane Street is knee deep in a lawsuit over its role in the $40bn Terra collapse, which it denies. Citadel Securities recently lost a lawsuit blocking a “slower” type of options exchange.
