Millennium's head of equities trading technology has left after two years
Working for a major hedge fund can often mean sitting out of the market for years at a time on lengthy non-competes. Rick Lane, a technologist, spent 15 months on the sidelines before joining Millennium in 2024; two years later he's tending to the garden once more.

Lane worked as Millennium's head of equities trading technology. He joined from rival hedge fund Citadel, where he worked in its core technology business which focuses on technology for its risk and trading businesses. He left that role in the summer of 2023 before sitting out that 15-month noncompete.
It's not clear where Lane will go after finishing his current gardening leave period. He did not respond to a request for comment.
It's understood that, rather than appointing a replacement, Millennium will distribute Lane's duties among existing employees. Current openings in the trading technology team are limited; there's one open listing for a junior/mid-level engineer in Singapore.
