Jefferies hires top Hong Kong industrials banker from HSBC

Last year, Jefferies was vocal about its desire to promote more managing directors (MDs) from within and hire less externally. Nonetheless, exceptions are made when necessary, as is the case with the bank's latest hire in Hong Kong.

Misi Tang announced via LinkedIn late last week that she is joining Jefferies as its Asia head of diversified industrials, based in Hong Kong. Her most recent role appears to be at HSBC; Bloomberg reported in 2019 that she joined the bank as its APAC head of capital goods and auto coverage.

Prior to that, Tang spent a decade at Barclays, where she was an MD and China head of Industrials.

New senior arrivals at Jefferies are becoming increasingly rare after years of being very common. The bank said in its October 2025 investor day that it expected to hire just five external MDs across 2025. Tang's arrival means the bank is now 20% of the way towards last year's total.
