"I resigned from my banking job. My mother is ill and there's no flexibility"

I'm an analyst at a major US investment bank and I stand with Zion Glover. Like Zion, I am getting out.

My team is extremely overworked. We have been over-capacity for months and need more people to fill our seats, but no one seems to arrive. The situation is unsustainable.

Now my mother is sick. I've asked if I can work flexibly and I've been told I can't. I have to be in the office five days a week irrespective of her illness, and to keep working these unendurable hours. It's unsustainable.

It's taken a toll on my mental health. I've had two days off as a result, but the bank is pushing back on that. My managers won't listen to my attempts to communicate my situation - all they're interested in are results, for which they push and push and push. There's no thought about helping me in the long term.

The team has become so bad that even when we do hire new people, they leave again. Multiple people have resigned this year, and people we only recently hired are already trying to get out.

Whatever it says, this bank doesn't care about safety and wellbeing. It's not a priority. It never has been - I've been here for 3.5 years. If anything, it's getting worse.
