Ex-Goldman Sachs strat MD leaves London for New York CTO job
Hedge funds love hiring quantitative strategists from banks and the latest hire from Stone Ridge is testament to that. Andrew McLennan was a Strat at Goldman Sachs in London for 12 years and, after leaving two years ago, has resurfaced in New York as an executive at the hedge fund.

Andrew McLennan has joined Stone Ridge Holdings Group (SRHG) in New York as its chief technology officer. The firm owns the hedge fund of the same name, as well as multiple crypto and InsurTech firms including NYDIG.
McLennan first left Goldman for asset manager Nuveen in London, where he was global head of technology for private assets and alternative fund products. While in the role, he founded its real assets AI centre of excellence and concurrently obtained a CTO executive degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
Prior to that, McLennan was a Goldman Sachs lifer. He joined as a strat in FICC private credit trading. He was promoted to MD in 2019 as international head of desk strats in the bank's private alternatives division. More so than other quant roles, strats are known to be good communicators with strong business acumen.
