Goldman Sachs' EMEA head of EM equities trading left for a mystery hedge fund

Ediz Karahasanoglu has left Goldman Sachs. It's not clear where he's going, but he's thought to be destined for a hedge fund.

Karahasanoglu, who was one of Goldman's top traders in London, is thought to have resigned in the past few days. He was latterly Goldman's head of EMEA equities trading, after joining the firm in 2012 and climbing the ranks.

Karahasanoglu didn't respond to a request to comment on his destination, and Goldman declined to comment on his exit. He's not the first Goldman equities trader to leave for a hedge fund: Riccardo Riboldi, his predecessor as head of EMEA equities trading, left for Schonfeld in 2023.

Karahasanoglu's exit comes as funds like Citadel are building out their equities teams in London. He's not understood to be joining Citadel, however. - LMR has been suggested, but not confirmed.

On Thursday last week, Reuters reported that equities hedge funds had erased all their gains for 2025. By early this week, the situation was likely worse still. As of late yesterday, they may be doing fine again. Being an equities portfolio manager in this market is not for the faint-hearted.
