Deutsche Bank's new Citi MDs have little in common

Deutsche Bank is no longer in full scale expansion mode. But nor has it sworn-off hiring entirely. At last year's investor day, it proclaimed its intention of hiring bankers to cover "industrials, FIG, healthcare and tech," while also increasing its presence in US flow credit trading and US securitized products.

One month into 2026, there are signs that Deutsche is indeed making senior hires, but not in any of these areas.

In New York, the German bank has recruited two managing directors from Citi, one to cover structured rates products, and one to handle regulation.

Andrew Sufka joined DB this month as head of US rates risk management solutions. He previously spent 11 years at Citi, latterly in corporate derivatives.

Rosalie Yee also joined DB this month from Citi, as head of US bank regulatory legal. Yee previously occupied a similar role at Citi, where she worked for nearly three years.

Deutsche Bank declined to comment on Sufka's arrival. Coincidentally or not, Pedro Goldbaum, Deutsche's head of rates trading, also worked for Citi not so long ago.

Yee seems a fine fit for Deutsche Bank. Both Deutsche and Citi have had brushes with US regulators. DB was fined $186m in 2023 for problems with its US controls. Citi was fined $400m in 2020 for deficiencies in internal controls, followed by $136m in 2024 for failing to fix them. Speaking a few weeks ago, Citi CEO Jane Fraser said the bank is closely to attaining its "target" state in the wake of these fines.
