Boutique bank Rothschild hired a new chief data officer in London
Boutiques, unlike their major investment banking counterparts, aren't known for hiring thousands of technologists. They keep their tech teams lean like the rest of their organization. At Rothschild, the tech team appears to be expanding as adopting AI becomes increasingly important.

Rothschild has hired Kiran Gill as a group chief data officer, operating within the group data and digital office. It appears to be a new role; Rothschild did not respond to a request for comment, but we can't see any prior chief data officer. Paris-based Emmanuelle Saudeau has been chief digital officer since 2020, presumably working within the same team. Gill says on her LinkedIn that the role will involve utilizing data effectively and enabling AI.
Gill joined after a four month stint at pension fund L&G working on data transformation. She spent eight years prior to that working in senior data roles across insurance firms QBE and Lloyds of London. Earlier in her career, she was also head of data quality and governance for the UK's National Health Service.
Although boutiques are small already, their executives think they can be smaller. Lazard MD Peter Orszag has previously said that he expects deal teams to shrink as his bank continues to adopt AI. Similar things may be in the works at Rothschild.
