Balyasny hired a Brevan Howard PM in Singapore as it looks to grow in Asia
Balyasny has plans for growth in Asia, after revenue in the region increased 82% over the last two years. Its Singaporean office, home to almost half of the hedge fund's ~130 Asian investment staff, is welcoming a quant PM with a French background.

Trung Nguyen announced via LinkedIn that he's joining Balyasny as a portfolio manager in Singapore. He spent the last year and a half as a PM at Brevan Howard, and almost six years before that as a quant researcher for Cubist, the quant arm of hedge fund Point72.
Nguyen spent the bulk of his career, however, working for a French hedge fund in Paris. He spent seven and a half years with quant fund Capital Fund Management (CFM), joining after graduating with a PhD from the Grandes Écoles. CFM is known for having very few portfolio managers but Nguyen was one of them, working on directional strategies.
Balyasny has ~60 investment staff in each of its Hong Kong and Singapore offices but, as of August, employed 21 PMs split evenly across the two countries. Its Tokyo base is smaller, housing just three PMs as of August, but The Business Times reported in January that the hedge fund is tripling its Japanese office space.
