Jain Global hired an ex-Citadel portfolio manager who dreamed briefly of breaking free

When Anthony Davis, a Citadel portfolio manager focused on convertible bond trading, left at the end of last summer, he had some big plans for the future.

Davis, who briefly worked for JPMorgan but who spent a far longer time working for Deutsche Bank in New York as a bond trader, was thought to be breaking free. Hedge Fund Alert reported in October that Davis was planning his own fund and was in the early stages of setting one up.

Things don't seem to have gone to plan. Instead of launching own fund, Davis is now joining Jain Global, the hedge fund founded by ex-Credit Suisse trader Bobby Jain. Jain hired heavily last year ahead of its launch in July and now has 50 portfolio managers, up from 42.

However, hiring at Jain seems to have dwindled and aside from Nicholas Massaro from BlueCrest, Davis is one of the few PMs to join this year. 

Jain declined to comment. The fund returned 1% in January.
