ADIA quant pay grades revealed after someone left a payslip in the printer room

As we reported earlier this month, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) can be a good place to work if you're a quant who wants a very high salary and no bonus.

Exactly how high the salary might be was revealed when a senior quant there allegedly left his payslip in the printer room. We haven't seen the payslip and ADIA isn't commenting, but the pay grades below are understood to reflect the salaries on offer to people in Team Q, also known as the Quantitative Research & Development team (QRD), run by Majed Alromaithi.

Insiders say Team Q has five levels, known as Q1-Q5. They are thought to pay as follows:

Q1: $100k-$150k

Q2: $200k-$350k

Q3: $500k-$800k

Q4: $1m-$2m

Q5: $3m+

We asked a senior quant from Team Q to validate these pay levels. He declined.

What does a quant in Team Q do for this pay? The research papers produced by colleagues of Marcos Lopez de Prado, Team Q's head of global head of quantitative R&D offer one indication. Topics recently covered include LLMS, valuing private equity investments and how to use the Sharpe Ratio. ADIA has been growing a team of AI experts

One former senior quant from Team Q says the team's primary function is portfolio allocation. "It's not a hedge fund but is about how ADIA's assets are allocated globally and is about making tactical allocations based upon an understanding of strategy and risk. It is centralised asset allocation."
