APAC Head of Compliance - Insurance

A leading global insurer is seeking an accomplished Head of Compliance to provide strategic direction and leadership for its compliance function across multiple jurisdictions. Reporting directly to the Group Chief Risk Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining a robust and forward-looking compliance and governance framework that underpins sustainable business expansion, regulatory integrity, and effective risk management.

What you'll do:

As Head of Compliance you will play a central role in shaping the organisation's approach to regulatory affairs by designing robust frameworks that ensure adherence to legal requirements across all regions. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve monitoring global regulatory changes; advising senior leaders on compliance risks; overseeing critical areas such as AML/CTF; supporting strategic business initiatives; delivering comprehensive reports for Board-level committees; leading assurance activities; evaluating operational controls; partnering with internal audit functions; mentoring your team; collaborating closely with Legal, Risk Management, Finance, Investments, IT, Human Resources and Internal Audit departments. Success in this role requires you to build credibility with stakeholders at all levels-balancing commercial objectives with regulatory expectations-while nurturing an environment where integrity is paramount. You will be instrumental in driving continuous improvement within governance processes by identifying areas for enhancement through rigorous assessment of controls. Your ability to foster inter-personal connections across departments will ensure coordinated efforts towards strengthening risk management practices throughout the organisation.

  • Lead and continuously enhance the Group Compliance Framework by developing policies, standards, monitoring programmes, governance arrangements and reporting mechanisms that support sustainable growth.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory and governance requirements across every jurisdiction in which the organisation operates.
  • Monitor regulatory developments globally, assess their impact on business operations and oversee the implementation of regulatory change initiatives.
  • Act as the principal point of contact with regulatory authorities by managing enquiries, inspections, consultations, submissions and filings efficiently.
  • Provide practical risk-based compliance advice and guidance to senior management teams, governance committees and business functions to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Oversee key compliance areas including anti-money laundering/counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF), sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption measures, conduct risk management, conflicts of interest resolution and data protection protocols.
  • Advise business functions on regulatory obligations, compliance risks and governance matters while supporting strategic initiatives such as business expansion activities or major corporate projects.
  • Support the Group CRO in delivering high-quality reporting and analysis to Board-level committees by providing insightful updates on regulatory developments, compliance trends and emerging risks.
  • Lead compliance monitoring and assurance activities to assess adherence to internal policies and governance standards while evaluating control effectiveness across operational risk frameworks.
  • Mentor and develop a high-performing compliance team by championing professional excellence, continuous development opportunities and fostering a strong culture of ethical conduct.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for Head of Compliance brings extensive experience from insurance or broader financial services sectors-having operated effectively at executive level within regulated institutions. Your academic background provides solid grounding while your professional journey has equipped you with a nuanced understanding of global regulations governing reinsurance operations. You are adept at engaging both external regulators and senior stakeholders internally-offering balanced perspectives that facilitate constructive dialogue on risk mitigation strategies. Your exposure to operational risk frameworks enables you not only to identify but also to address gaps proactively through collaborative partnerships across departments. As a strategic thinker who values empathy in leadership interactions, you inspire trust among colleagues while championing continuous development within your team. Your exceptional communication skills allow you to distil complex information into clear, actionable insights for Board-level audiences. Above all-you are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where ethical conduct is celebrated alongside professional excellence.

  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Finance, Risk Management, Accounting or Business Administration-or related discipline-demonstrates your academic foundation for this executive role.
  • Approximately 15 years or more of relevant experience in compliance leadership within insurance or financial services sectors equips you with deep industry knowledge.
  • Demonstrated expertise leading compliance programmes within regulated financial institutions across multiple jurisdictions highlights your adaptability.
  • Strong understanding of insurance regulation frameworks coupled with corporate governance principles ensures you can navigate complex environments effectively.
  • Proven track record engaging regulators as well as executive management teams showcases your stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience supporting Board committee reporting processes demonstrates your ability to communicate complex issues clearly at senior levels.
  • Exposure to operational risk management frameworks-including internal controls-would be advantageous for holistic oversight responsibilities.
  • Strategic thinking capability allows you to translate intricate regulatory developments into actionable business strategies.
  • Influential adviser qualities enable you to build trusted relationships throughout all levels of an organisation.
  • Exceptional communication skills combined with proven people leadership attributes position you as an empathetic mentor committed to developing talent.
