A growing commercial insurance organization is seeking a Senior Commercial Underwriter to join its underwriting team supporting business across the western United States.
This position is well suited for an underwriter who enjoys evaluating and pricing business, working closely with agency partners, and having a meaningful voice in underwriting decisions. While this is not a management position, the role offers the opportunity to serve as a trusted resource to less experienced team members and play an important part in helping drive profitable growth within the region.
The team is looking for someone who brings strong commercial lines experience, sound underwriting judgment, and the ability to balance growth objectives with disciplined risk selection.
What You'll Be Doing
- Underwrite and manage a portfolio of new and renewal commercial accounts
- Analyze risk characteristics, coverage structures, loss history, and pricing considerations
- Make thoughtful underwriting decisions while maintaining a strong focus on profitability
- Build and strengthen relationships with agency partners throughout the territory
- Collaborate with underwriting, service, and leadership teams to support business objectives
- Provide guidance and technical expertise to colleagues when needed
- Stay informed on market trends, competitive conditions, and emerging risks
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience
- Experience with multiple lines of business, including a combination of Property, General Liability, Commercial Auto, and Workers Compensation
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills
- Ability to evaluate risk and develop appropriate pricing strategies
- Comfortable working directly with agents and brokers
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
- Professional designations such as CPCU, AU, ARM, or similar are a plus
