Trustees and Committee Members
GatenbySanderson London, United KingdomTrustees and Committee Members
The Church of England Pensions Board provides retirement services for those who work or minister for the Church. It is the Trustee of three pension schemes, administers pensions for over 41,000 people working for more than 700 employers and is a charity which supports around 2700 retired clergy and their dependants, mainly through affordable rental housing, shared ownership, and supported living schemes. Pensions and charitable funds under investment total in excess of £3.7bn and the Pensions Board actively engages with companies it invests in, in line with its robust, industry-leading ethical investment policies. This is an exciting time to join us as we reach the end of our centenary year, which has been marked by the implementation of a range of reforms to enhance clergy pension benefits, the introduction of a new suite of financial wellbeing services and the continued expansion of our retirement housing provision for clergy and their surviving spouses.
We are now seeking to appoint one Trustee to the board, and a number of committee members to our housing, pensions and investment committees. As a trustee, you will work closely with colleagues to set and review the Board's purpose and vision; and hold the Chief Executive and the Directors to account for their performance to ensure that the best interests of our customers are met and secure. Trustees also play an active role in our committees, which are supported by independent non-trustee members who are appointed for their specialist knowledge and insight.
With a proven ability to help shape strategy and ensure robust governance arrangements gained in a complex organisation, you will have the intellectual rigour, relationship skills and political sensitivity to be credible and influential within a diverse trustee board and with all our key stakeholders. Prior experience within pensions, investments, housing and/or charitable services would be advantageous, but we are open to a diverse set of skills and experiences. These are no ordinary roles and we are looking for people who will share our vision and our values. We take diversity seriously and see a wide-ranging diversity at Board level as key to delivering our purpose. Currently people with disabilities, LGBT+, the minority and ethnic communities and younger people are under-represented on the Board, and we welcome nominations from these communities.
Previous knowledge of the Church of England is not required as it is through your broader experience, insight, intellectual rigour and judgement that you will bring to the Board and its committees.
