We are looking for a Senior Developer to join our team in our Glasgow, London or Edinburgh office.

What will your role look like?

he DB Member Valuations team is a close-knit group responsible for developing and supporting our in-house final salary pension scheme valuation platforms. These business-critical systems play a key role in supporting DB actuarial operations and delivering high-quality outcomes for our clients.

Working closely with consultants, users and fellow technology professionals, the team combines strong technical expertise with deep business understanding. Through regular collaboration, pair working and stakeholder engagement, we identify opportunities to solve complex challenges and deliver solutions that make a real difference.

As a Senior Developer, you'll play a leading role in shaping the design, development and support of our applications. You'll contribute to technical direction, influence engineering practices and help drive continuous improvement across our platforms and services.

We work with a modern Microsoft technology stack and are committed to building secure, resilient and maintainable solutions. This is an opportunity to work on meaningful systems at scale while helping to shape the future of technology within our pensions business.

Though this is a varied role, your key tasks will include:
  • Taking technical ownership of solution delivery, making pragmatic decisions and clearly communicating risks, dependencies and trade-offs.
  • Providing reliable delivery estimates, identifying assumptions and areas of uncertainty.
  • Driving improvements in engineering practices, quality standards, automation and system maintainability.
  • Collaborating with consultants, users and technical teams to understand business challenges and deliver effective solutions.
  • Working within high-performing, multidisciplinary teams in a DevOps environment that promotes autonomy, collaboration and engineering excellence.
  • Driving innovation and increasing the maturity of our frameworks, integrations and automation capabilities.
  • Mentoring, coaching and supporting the development of less experienced team members.
  • Designing, building and supporting solutions across a range of technologies, with a focus on .NET and Microsoft Azure.
  • Assessing and managing technical challenges and delivery risks throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Leading non-functional improvement initiatives, including performance, monitoring, resilience and scalability.
  • Solving complex technical and business challenges that have a meaningful impact on our clients and colleagues.
  • Playing a key role in teams that build, test, deploy and operate applications and services.

To enjoy and succeed in this role, you will have/be:
  • Strong experience applying object-oriented design principles and development practices, particularly when delivering C#/.NET solutions.
  • Experience with automated testing and test-first approaches, ideally using tools such as NUnit and behaviour-driven development (BDD) frameworks.
  • Experience working with the Microsoft development stack and Azure cloud technologies, including many of the following:
    • ASP.NET and ASP.NET Core
    • API design and development
    • RESTful services
    • Service-oriented and microservices architectures
    • CQRS patterns
    • SQL Server and T-SQL
    • Messaging platforms such as Azure Service Bus or RabbitMQ
    • Git and Azure DevOps
    • CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation using Azure DevOps
    • Relational and NoSQL data platforms
    • Testing frameworks such as NUnit, FakeItEasy and SpecFlow
  • Experience working with front-end frameworks, ideally Angular.
  • A passion for continuous learning, knowledge sharing and professional development.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • The ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience collaborating with clients and third-party technical teams.
  • Confidence communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior stakeholders.
  • A strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle and modern software engineering practices.

We also support development in the following areas:
  • F#
  • Financial modelling

We would also encourage applications from candidates who perhaps do not possess all the attributes and experience listed above but are competent with the majority and would be able to quickly develop the additional skills and experience required in post with our full support. We would also love to hear about other knowledge and experience you may have that is not listed but could be of interest.

In addition to a competitive salary and access to our profit share scheme, we offer:
  • A flexible selection of employee benefits, so you can choose a package that best matches your lifestyle and needs.
  • A collaborative and encouraging work environment where your thinking and ideas are encouraged.
  • On site mental health and wellbeing assistance.
  • A commitment to helping you develop both personally and professionally, with mentoring opportunities and access to our award-winning learning portal, Aspire.
  • Regular social activities, in addition to three days paid volunteering leave each year and a day's leave to celebrate your birthday.
  • Hybrid working so you can enjoy the positive wellbeing of working from home as well as the benefits of meeting colleagues in our sociable, modern office environments - with the expectation of two 'in-office' days per week.
  • A flexible working window, allowing colleagues the freedom to work flexibly between the hours of 7am and 7pm.

Please note, we recruit on a rolling basis so early applications are recommended to avoid disappointment.
