Non-Lay Member for the Office for Legal Complaints

GatenbySanderson Birmingham, United Kingdom
Non-Lay Member for the Office for Legal Complaints
The Office for Legal Complaints (OLC) administers the independent ombudsman scheme to resolve complaints by consumers about legal services - the scheme is known as the Legal Ombudsman (LeO). LeO's role is to provide consumers with a service that is modern, responsive and efficient. At the heart of this is the need to give people confidence in the services they use at the most significant points in their life - buying a new house, dealing with a separation and access to children, dealing with employment disputes.

We do this both through investigating and resolving complaints about the service that consumers have received from legal providers and, with increasing focus, by ensuring that the data and insight we gain from investigations is fed back into the legal system to support future learning.

This is a pivotal moment for us. With a new Chair and Chief Ombudsman, the Legal Ombudsman is about to embark on a transformation in response to both rising need and ensuring its work promotes learning within legal services. We are also developing a new, ambitious three-year strategic plan to take us to 2030. This plan will build on the strong and resilient performance of the Legal Ombudsman in recent years as well as exploring new opportunities, especially around digital.

We are now seeking to appoint a Non-Lay Member to join the board and support the strategic direction of this work. Ideally as a qualified solicitor, you will bring experience of organisational transformation at senior levels, whether through reshaping internal operations or through transforming the way an organisation engages externally. You will bring insight into the issues faced by consumers accessing legal services and, driven by our own deep commitment to reflect the communities we serve, we are keen to hear from individuals from under-represented groups or with a proven commitment to inclusive leadership.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative and committed board at a critical time for the OLC. Further details on the role can be accessed via the link below and, should you value a further conversation to explore the role in detail once you have reviewed these, please contact Orla Brennan orla.brennan@gatenbysanderson.com or Matt Malone matt.malone@gatenbysanderson.com .
