A well-known Hong Kong conglomerate is looking for an Assistant Data Engineering Lead to join on a 3-6 month contract basis (extension possible). This is a hands-on leadership role sitting within a growing data function built on Azure and Databricks.

What you'll do

1. You'll lead a mixed team of in-house and vendor data engineers, keeping ETL pipelines and the wider Azure data platform running smoothly and evolving.
2. You'll be the go-between for internal stakeholders and external vendors, signing off on technical deliverables (design docs, effort estimates, testing and deployment work) and making sure documentation like data dictionaries and pipeline designs stays sharp.
3. You'll also support the wider Data Engineering leadership in prioritizing work across a busy, multi-pillar data function.

What you'll bring

1. A degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field, with 5+ years in data engineering or data analytics platforms: think data warehousing, modelling, ETL/ELT, integration and BI. You've led a small team before and know how to manage vendors. SQL and PySpark/Python are non-negotiable, and you're comfortable working with both small and big data formats (CSV, Parquet, Hive Metastore) inside Azure Databricks.
2. Bonus points for experience with the broader Azure stack (Data Lake Gen2, SQL DB, Data Factory, DevOps), data security and privacy work, ML or agentic AI exposure, data quality frameworks, Databricks Unity Catalog migrations, or Agile/Jira workflows.
3. Fluent English required; Cantonese and Mandarin strongly preferred given the local stakeholder base.
