ArcelorMittal Maizières Research is the worldwide largest research centre of ArcelorMittal company.
The position is located within the Digital Technologies Department of the Maizières Process Research Centre, composed of more than 35 people (researchers PhD, engineers, technicians, trainees...), covering a large spectrum of competencies (sensors, computer vision, data science, automatism, models, physics, ...).
The mission of the Digital Technologies Department is to develop digital and sensors-based solutions for process control and optimization on the one hand and quality product control on the other hand.
The activities of the department are deeply involved in the digitalization of manufacturing processes (industry 4.0), in the creation of the new decarbonization routes of ArcelorMittal, while providing solutions for our factories worldwide.

Your role

Inside a team of 5 people (PhD), you will be involved in several activities linked to online steel product characterization and digitalization (industry 4.0), in which you will contribute to three main research axes:

• Physical & AI-based models for on-line measurement of metallurgical
• Physical & AI-based models for on-line process control characteristics of the steel
• Physical thermal models for process control & optimization

You will:

• Develop and integrate advanced physical & metallurgical models to monitor and optimize steel manufacturing process
• Develop and integrate real-time control systems
• Lead research activities in the framework of research projects and technical support to plants
• Contribute to the development and renewal of the activities: proposal of new research axes, new projects

Your profile

• You hold a Master's degree or a PhD in a relevant discipline (Physics, Control Engineering, Automation).
• You have a solid background in physics and/or in control engineering (measurements, feedback loops, Model Predictive Control, optimal controls...).
• You have solid knowledge of real-time and embedded systems, as well as heat transfer, thermal phenomena and physics (combustion, pyrolyze, oxidation, physical modeling...).
• You have knowledge in measurement techniques (instrumentation, signal processing).
• You have computer programming skills with MATLAB/Simulink, Fortran, or Python.
• You are fluent in French and in English.
• You are able to work in a team inside an R&D Lab and to communicate with a large number of stakeholders (program leaders, portfolios, process engineers...).

About the Team

Dans ce contexte, vous travaillerez pour le centre de recherche Maizières Process situé à Maizières-lès-Metz (France) dont la mission principale est de contribuer à la compétitivité et à la durabilité des lignes de production d'ArcelorMittal par le développement ou l'amélioration de procédés innovants ou de voies de transformation (de la sidérurgie au revêtement métallique). Les objectifs du laboratoire répondent aux besoins de nos usines (traitement des minéraux, exploitations en amont de l'acier, opérations en aval de l'acier, qualité des produits, problèmes transversaux). Maizières Process est en mesure d'offrir de nouvelles technologies, des solutions standard, des assistances techniques et un renforcement des connaissances.
