HR Manager - Construction & Operations (Sydney)
Are you an experienced HR Manager who enjoys working closely with senior leaders, navigating complex people matters, and building structure within a fast-growing business?
We're partnering with a successful, founder-led private business operating across construction, manufacturing and related services to recruit a permanent HR Manager.
Based in Sydney, this is a broad, hands-on generalist role supporting a workforce of approximately 200 employees across multiple businesses. You'll partner directly with the founders and leadership team, lead the day-to-day HR function and help further develop the people practices, processes and frameworks required to support continued growth.
The Role
Working closely with the founders, operational leadership and existing HR team, you will:
- Lead the day-to-day People & Culture function across a diverse, operational workforce
- Provide pragmatic advice across employee relations, performance management and generalist HR matters
- Manage complex ER matters confidently and coach leaders through people challenges
- Support workforce planning, recruitment and talent initiatives across the group
- Oversee key employee lifecycle processes including onboarding, probation, performance and remuneration reviews
- Review and improve HR policies, processes and frameworks as the organisation continues to scale
- Build trusted relationships with senior leaders, employees and operational/site-based teams
- Lead and develop the existing HR function, building capability and consistency across the business
- Identify opportunities to improve HR systems, processes and ways of working
- Balance strategic people initiatives with the hands-on requirements of a fast-moving business
About You
You will bring:
- Proven experience as an HR Manager, People & Culture Manager or senior HR generalist
- Strong end-to-end generalist capability across the employee lifecycle
- Excellent employee relations experience and confidence navigating complex people matters
- Experience partnering directly with founders, directors or senior operational leaders
- A pragmatic, commercially minded approach to HR and the confidence to make decisions
- A personable and down-to-earth communication style, with the ability to build credibility across both corporate and operational teams
- The ability to operate autonomously and create structure within an entrepreneurial environment
- Experience within construction, trades, manufacturing or another operational environment will be highly regarded
